This lovely contraption...but
...does anyone have an "ALI" carpet needle or, in fact, know exactly how to use one? (EDIT: yes...I have read the instructions!)
Also...
This gorgeous hand-printed 'Bolda' fabric (4 metres!)
(EDIT: just found another colourway here)
and the rest of the box lot she scored...
....gotta love the way she supports my habit!

Cool stuff. Nooo idea what the needle thing is.
no idea. the needle is dutch do, Delft is a Dutch city. doesnt the directions give away a clue?
What you have is a rug making tool. You stretch the fabric usually burlap or monks cloth on a frame can be up right or laying flat. This tool is used from the back of the rug. Yarn is threaded through the hollow needle then it is passed through the eye of the needle. When using it the eye should face away from the direction of movement. You use it like an old egg beater you crank the handle and move in the direction you wish to go the tip of the tool never leaves contact with the fabric. This is a cool tool. I have a few simmalr ones on my blog under rugs opn the side bar. I think yours is older than mine. If you have no use for this my email is on my blog I will gladly trade with you or buy it. As I like and use vintage tools all the time.

Love that fabric! Nice one Mum, can i borrow her?
Love the print, what a great score.
Thank you sunshine!
The rugs link was helpful. You have a lot of tools, obviously not a stranger to rug making...I may be emailing you when I give the 'ALI' a go and if I can't work it you may become the proud new owner.

I sent you an email contanct me with any questions you have it is sort of similar to russian needle punch. It forms a loop on the front of the fabric you can leave it looped or tift it which means to cut the loop. I also sent you my phone number in the email sometimes it is just easier to ask than to try and figure out hoe to put the words to text and quicker too.
Take care
